Participation of about 1,000 guests, including Governor Kim Kwan-yong and survivors of patriots and independence activists
Gyeongsangbuk-do Province has programmed a special ceremony for the 95th anniversary of Samiljeol, Independence Movement Day (March 1).
This provincial ceremony of Samiljeol was held at the Gyeongbuk(Gyeongsangbuk-do) Provincial Independence Movement Memorial, which was expanded and promoted from the er Andong Independence Movement Memorial last January 21, with the participation of about 1,000 guests, including Governor Kim Kwan-yong, surviving patriots, local organization leaders, veteran organization leaders, survivors of independence activists, and local citizens.
Starting with the presentation of the Independence Declaration read by President Hang Jeung Lee of the Korea Liberation Association Gyeongbuk Office, the programs involved delivering souvenirs to the surviving patriots of Korea, awarding the independence activists, singing the Song of Samiljeol, and cheering for the independence of Korea.
The participants waved the Taegeukgi and Dokdo flags, which were distributed to them before the ceremony, while they sang the Song of Samiljeol, Arirang, and the March of Mugunghwa all together.
“Gyeongbuk has risen without fear each time Korea was in crisis, and led the proud 5,000 years of Korean history,”said Governor Kim Kwan-yong. “Let’s bring with us the souls and spirits of Gyeongbuk so that the foation of our national development and our national spirit of reunification will rise again for the development of Korea in the future.”
“We will also fulfill our historical responsibility and role to condemn Japan’s ever-growing greed that drives them to distort history and steal Dokdo, and we will heighten our sovereignty and cultural occupation of Dokdo,” he added.
Taegeukgi was hung along the major road of the Province to Samiljeol, and the local people participated in various ceremonial events, including the reenactment of the Manse Movement and the making of Taegeukgi.
The local cities and towns held their own ceremonial events to remember the patriots and pray at the Independence Movement Memorial Tower.
